The 2014 Denver Lawyers’ Arts & Literature Party

A celebration for the third Denver Lawyers’ Arts and Literature contest was held on Wednesday, Sept. 10, at the DBA offices. DBA President-Elect Janet Drake introduced each winner, and then they gave background on their winning work and either read an excerpt or presented their art. Those honored were:

• Painting: Brett Godfrey
• Sculpture and Photography: Barry C. Bartel
• Fiction Writing: Joel Sayres
• Nonfiction Writing: Ilona Dotterrer

2014 DU Law Stars

DU Law Stars was held on Thursday, October 2, at the Hyatt Convention Center. DU Law Stars is a distinguished alumni and faculty awards dinner that benefits the Clinical Programs and the Judicial Fellows Program at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law. Almost 800 people from the Colorado legal community gathered to celebrate the honorees, which included Theodore Z. Gelt, JD’75, Thompson G. Marsh Award; Gale A. Norton, JD’78, Outstanding Alumni Award; Jack Finlaw, JD’81, Robert H. McWilliams, Jr. Alumni Professionalism Award; and Professor Stephen Pepper, Robert B. Yegge Excellence in Teaching Award

2014 Colorado Attorney General Debate

Monday, Oct. 6, the CBA along with the Asian Pacific American Bar, Colorado GLBT Bar, Colorado Hispanic Bar, Colorado Women’s Bar, and Sam Cary Bar sponsored a debate of three candidates for Colorado Attorney General. The debate was moderated by Denver Post political columnist Fred Brown. The candidates included Republican Cynthia Coffman, Democrat Don Quick, and Libertarian David Williams. More than 120 attendees enjoyed the free event held at the CBA CLE offices.

Wheels of Justice Raises More Than $2 Million over 9 Years

The Wheels of Justice bar sponsored cycling team raised $365,075.13 for the Children’s Hospital Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, bringing their nine-year total to more than $2.3 million. Please join the team on Thursday, Nov. 6, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the DBA offices for the Wheels of Justice Team Appreciation Party. Attendees will enjoy free drinks, appetizers, and have the opportunity to hear from doctors and patient families about the life-saving treatments supported by the fundraising effort. DBA YLD Hosts Law Suit Days

The DBA Young Lawyers Division held its annual Law Suit Days on Sept. 25 and 26 on the steps of the Denver City and County Building. Approximately 400 men’s and women’s business apparel were donated at the event. The clothing drive benefited Bayaud Enterprises, which provides vocational assessments, training services, and employment opportunities for people with disabilities or other barriers preventing them from finding employment on their own.
