2014 Spring Admission Ceremony

The Spring Admission Ceremony was held on Tuesday, May 27, at the Boettcher Concert Hall in downtown Denver. The swearing-in ceremony was held in celebration of the 281 people who passed the 2014 bar exam. The keynote speaker was University of Colorado Law School Dean Philip J. Weiser. President-Elect of the Colorado Bar Association, Charles Garcia, also spoke. At the end of the ceremony, new admittees, as well as any other attorneys in attendance, stood for the oath of admission.

2014 Henry Hall Memorial Golf Tournament

On Monday, June 2, 64 DBA members gathered at Inverness Golf Club in Englewood to compete in the annual Henry Hall Memorial Golf Tournament. The golfers were treated to lunch before the afternoon shotgun, followed by an awards ceremony after play. The weather was perfect and a good time was had by all.

The following teams earned top honors in their respective divisions: Challenge Low Gross with a score of 63—Ryan Mutschelknaus, Dan Mong, Milo Twiford, and Joe Dischinger; Challenge Low Net with a score of 63— Kato Crews, Emily Gregory, and Rick Foster; Champions Low Gross with a score of 158—Todd Jansen, John Lumley, Marty Martineau, and Frank Hamilton.

On the individual side, the Champions Men Low Gross winner with a score of 74 was Tim Kratz, his 5th victory. CBA/DBA Executive Director Chuck Turner managed to pick up a closest-to-the-pin win along with Tim Kratz, Dan Mong, and Jon Waldman.

Colfax Marathon Relay

Fifty-seven teams participated in the Colfax Marathon Relay on Sunday, May 18, to raise more than $2,000 for The Legal Center for People with Disabilities and Older People. The DBA and CBA Young Lawyers Divisions, as well as the CBA/DBA staff, put together teams for the relay. Event sponsors CenturyLink and Vail Summit Orthopedics provided the teams with shirts and capes, which were a big hit., and the DBA YLD provided refreshments at The Legal Center’s tent on race day. The Legal Center’s booth won an award for one of the best booths in charity village.

Law Day Art Contest Winners Tour DAM

Winners of the DBA’s Law Day Art Contest, along with their classes, were invited to the Denver Art Museum, where the winning students—Keira Mulligan from Brown Elementary and Corwin Hargrave and Kevin Liang from Gust Elementary—had their artwork on display for their classmates to see and they enjoyed a day exploring the rest of the museum.

Trial Lawyers Present Awards at the Association’s 17th Annual Spring Dinner

The Colorado Trial Lawyers Association (CTLA) hosted its 17th Annual Spring Dinner on May 8. At the Spring Dinner, CTLA honored Tom Metier with the Kenneth Norman Kripke Lifetime Achievement Award; Michael Nimmo with the New Lawyer of the Year Award; and Bill Trine with the Access to Justice Award. The 2013 Case of the Year Award was presented to Kevin Hannon of The Hannon Law Firm, LLC; William J. Hansen of McDermott & McDermott, LLP; and Siddhartha H. Rathod, Qusair Mohamedbhai and Arash Jahanian of Rathod |Mohamedbhai LLC.
